What are dentures?
Dentures are artificial appliances designed to replace the natural teeth.
They are usually made from acrylic teeth bonded to an acrylic base and can either be a complete set or a partial set where you still have some of your natural teeth remaining.
How long will my dentures last?
Generally about five years but this can vary from person to person.
Factors that affect the life of dentures are:
• The rate of shrinkage of the gums
• Excessive lolly eating will wear the tooth surfaces
• Excessive scrubbing and cleaning of denture surfaces
• Unconscious grinding of the teeth
• Lack of care when handling and cleaning
How do i keep my dentures clean?
We find the best way to keep your dentures clean is to use a soft to medium brush and warm soapy water.
You may also like to try denture cleaning products such as Caldent and Tats Cleaning Liquid which are available from our Clinic and highly favoured by our patients.
These products can be used in conjunction with manual brushing to remove residual germs and bacteria.
How much do dentures cost?
It is hard to give an exact amount without looking at each patients individual needs.
A consultation will provide you with this answer and explain the different options available to you.

Do my dentures need to look like false teeth?
No, you are individuals and we take the time to sculpture the dentures to look natural. We can achieve this by using your photographs or by presenting you with our own ideas and working with you to create a natural appearance.
Why are my dentures coming loose?
Over the years you gum tissue and jaw bone shrink causing your denture to become loose and ill fitting. This can usually be fixed by relining the denture and a consultation will provide you with the correct solution.
How long will it take to adjust to my new dentures?
t takes time to for the tongue, cheek and lip muscles to adapt to the new dentures and to eat properly with them.
By starting with soft foods and having patience you will soon become accustomed to the new dentures and be able to bite and chew more naturally.
You may develop a few sore spots at the beginning but these can be relieved by your denture prosthetist.
